Your resource for life:

UOPX Alumni Association

Did you know that as a University of Phoenix alum, you have a network 620,000-strong—from 130 countries? You also have access to an extensive array of resources, ranging from career-enhancing tools to discounts on items you probably already buy. “You just have to know where to find them,” says Alanna Vitucci, MBA/GM ’01, executive director of Alumni Relations. “We’ve made that easy by consolidating the resources we proudly offer on our Alumni Association website. They’re all designed to help you stay connected with the Alumni community, right after you graduate—and beyond.”

Calling you home

Each fall, University of Phoenix celebrates homecoming at campuses across the country and beyond.

Get started now

It’s easy. “Once your degree is conferred and you receive your diploma in the mail, you can officially access the University of Phoenix Alumni Association’s free resources,” says Nikki Sandoval, MBA ’03, Alumni Relations director.

First, visit the Alumni Association’s website at alumni.phoenix.edu and create your own account. “All it takes to get started is your first name, your last name and your IRN,” says Adrienne Marcus, Alumni Relations senior operations manager. Once you’ve done this, you can customize your account options. “You can choose whether or not you want to be in the alumni directory, as well as sign up to be a company referral for other alumni looking to learn more about the organization where you work,” explains Marcus.

“You also can sign up to mentor other alumni and students seeking to benefit from your expertise and experience,” adds Vitucci.

Tap into valuable career resources

If you’re searching for a new job, the Alumni Association website is the place to go. On it, you’ll find the Alumni Career Center (under Career Resources), which is powered by CareerBuilder, the largest career website in the United States. The career center is fully equipped with a wide variety of tools and resources that can help alumni market their skills to potential employers.

“You can post your résumé or conduct an advanced job search with CareerBuilder’s sophisticated database,” says Marcus. You can read articles on a wide range of career-related topics, such as résumé writing and changing careers. “You’ll also find the latest advice on how to effectively hunt for a job in today’s economy—or how to thrive at the position you’re already in,” says Marcus. “On top of that, the content is refreshed every four days, so there’s always a reason to keep coming back to the site.”

Cash in on discounts

The Alumni Association understands that you want to get the most from every dollar you spend. That’s why it offers an extensive array of discounts just for registered members of the Alumni Association. “University of Phoenix has partnered with numerous businesses to offer benefits and savings to alumni through the University Marketplace (under Benefits & Discounts),” says Sandoval. “You’ll find discounts on everything from insurance products and travel to electronics and anti-identity theft services.”

“You also can purchase class rings, nursing pins, University of Phoenix attire and much more through our website,” says Marcus.

Learn about available scholarships

Through the University’s Paying It Forward® scholarship (under Get Involved, then click Scholarships), each year University of Phoenix alumni have the opportunity to nominate a deserving individual for one of 30 full-tuition scholarships to pursue a bachelor’s degree at University of Phoenix online or at a location nearby. Look for the nomination application each fall.

The Forever a Phoenix scholarship is just for University alumni. This program awards five full-tuition scholarships toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree program. The application requirements are simple—if you’re University of Phoenix alumni, you qualify.

“These scholarships make such an impact in the lives of the recipients,” says Vitucci. “They can mean the difference between dreaming about furthering your education and actually being able to do it.”

Stay connected

“There are many ways you can remain active in the University of Phoenix community after you graduate,” says Sandoval. “First, you can access our official Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages through our website, but there are many more opportunities to get involved.” They include:

Mentor Program—Mentoring connects students and alumni in the same field of study, industry or location. You can sign up to be a mentor today on the website (under Get Involved, then click Be a mentor).

Phoenix Focus—The University of Phoenix alumni electronic magazine helps you learn about fellow alumni who are making strides in their careers, and reports the latest on industry trends and career news. Do you have a success story to tell? Share your story at alumni@phoenix.edu.

Alumni Directory—The Alumni Directory (under Alumni Services, then click Alumni Directory) connects graduates of University of Phoenix in the same industries or geographical locations and builds a foundation that promotes communication and networking.

“Regardless of where you are in your careers—and your lives—I encourage each of you to empower your future by getting involved in the Alumni Association today,” says Vitucci.
